Increasing Productivity and Driving Down Costs Voice Communications—Just Like Any Other Networked Application
Enabling Advanced Business
Applications The Winning Value of
Standards-based Solutions
IP Telecommuting Module Even workers in small remote or home offices where a leased line or VPN service cannot be justified, are now able to enjoy the benefits of IP telephony services using the 3Com® IP Telecommuting Module. Their remote IP phones can be connected to a VCX® IP telephony system (via any available Internet connection offering sufficient bandwidth) to access corporate voice communications features. In addition, calls to the remote phones can be made using standard extension numbers or DID numbers like any other phone in the enterprise.
Because organizations often
rely on conventional firewalls to provide security at the network
edge, they may encounter issues in implementing advanced Session
Initiation Protocol (SIP)-based services for their remote workforce.
Firewalls are not generally designed to handle SIP communications
because their UDP ports
The IP Telecommuting Module
resolves these issues by presenting a public address to the
Internet—and a trusted IP address internally. Remote SIP devices
register with the module which then relays the communications of
authenticated devices to the VCX IP telephony system and other SIP
applications. A single IP Telecommuting Module can typically support up to 6,000 remote workers with optional redundant configurations to provide the following benefits:
· Flexibility. Remote work can occur safely and economically via standard office extensions and Internet services · Protection. Intruders and unauthorized users are blocked from the enterprise network while authorized SIP-based communications from the Internet are enabled · Privacy. Internal addresses are hidden from the public Internet · Convenience: NAT sessions are automatically maintained through broadband gateways to the private IP addresses typical in home and small office environments · Security. SIP-based convergence applications can be used by remote workers without disrupting the existing firewall or NAT routing infrastructures · Economy. Secure access from home and remote locations can be established without requiring additional hardware or software clients at the remote locations or installed on the users’ computing devices
3Com® IP Conferencing Click to join. Drag to conference. Click to video. These are the new metaphors for how today’s organizations are connecting groups of employees, customers and partners. With the 3Com® IP Conferencing Module, online meetings can be aligned easily with a range of business needs. To ensure required resources are reserved for regularly conducted meetings, conferences can be booked in advance. When fast, collaborative decisions must be made, ad-hoc meetings can be convened without reservations by using the ID number of the person initiating the conference. Alternatively, an event coordinator can automatically summon a predefined list of attendees to an instant or emergency conference.
3Com IP conferencing services easily integrate with 3Com SIP-based IP telephony solutions—VCX platforms and NBX R6.0 platforms running in SIP Mode. And, when used in conjunction with VCX® digital gateways, the module can easily address the needs of customers using a third-party IP PBX or legacy PBX. The NBX version supports audio conferencing for up to 25 users. When used with a VCX system, the IP conferencing solution consists of the following applications:
· Presence-based Instant Messaging for online or offline, on-hook or off-hook chat · Voice conferencing that supports up to 300 audio users on a single call and up to 3,000 simultaneous users across a multiserver system when used with VCX. · Video conferencing that is able to support as many as eight users on a single window · Document sharing for common editing and document development
With exceptional ease, organizations can implement enterprise-wide IP conferencing services to lower costs, increase user productivity and strengthen customer interactions. The module delivers:
· High-availability services that can function at the same time as other 3Com convergence applications to reduce deployment and management costs · Real-time collaboration tools that minimize storage requirements for email and voice mails · Presence services for reducing missed phone calls and voicemail tag · Easy to use interfaces that encourage collaboration and communication with capabilities such as click-to-add video for in-progress audio conferences · Click-to-call functionality for time-saving efficiency
